Finished Scenery Projects

I've made quite a bit of progress the last month in starting and actually finishing scenery for my Mordheim board.  I spent a lot of time on the Mordheim faceboook group getting inspiration and leveling up my techniques, and am quite happy with the result.  Much improved over previous attempts!

Platform Market

Due to an unexpected work cancellation thanks to a rogue polar vortex, I had time for the first time in a while to build some more scenery for the Mordheim table.  I started work on a platform/market square.  Eventually I hope to build some stalls to put in the courtyard portion and top level, we'll see what time allows.  But for now it's close to being ready to be painted and at least playable in the near future.

Kislev Kossars

A friend of mine is really into the Kislevites and wants to make an Empire in Flames warband for them for Mordheim.  The models are very hard to find as they are out of print, at least for a reasonable price.  I scored these for 47 dollars, half of what they usually go for on ebay, and now I am passing my savings on to him.

Orc Warboss

A friend of mine is massively into Total War: Warhammer, so I decided to treat him with an orc warlord to marshal his virtual armies.

Elf Ranger

Not much to report as life has been keeping me too busy to do much miniature work, but I did manage to paint up a model for a friend's D&D game.  Another Reaper Bones model, and with each one I paint I am getting more comfortable with the pvc.  It isn't as sharp as metal, but you can't really tell until you get close up.
 

Cthulhu Rising!

I finished my first big monster model in a very long time today, a Reaper Bones Cthulhu.  I am pretty happy with how it turned out, just the right amount of menacing emanating from the ancient one.

The Old Bridge Asylum

For the first time in a very long time I am starting a scenery project.  A good friend is going to visit in December and we have planned lots and lots of Mordheim, so I want to make the experience tip top and in so doing am finally trying to build a table centerpiece.  I am constructing a ruined insane asylum, based heavily on the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows.  Right now I just have the basic framework up, but once that is completed and detail work begins I plan on adding a lot of stuff specific to the inmates from the game, and the kids who were there in the orphanage.  It's off to a strong start, not too big, but not small either.  Here is what I have so far after a couple weekends of work.

Sophie the Dragonslayer

I had some time to paint up another model for a friend, the Sophie Dragonslayer from the Reaper Bones II collection.  This was my fourth experience with the bones medium and I am getting better at working with it, but for small models the detail is not as sharp as metal or plastic.  Still, it's good enough for government work.

Golden Tom Rat Ogre Entry

I entered the Golden Tom competition at Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum, and even though I did not place or honorable mention I am quite pleased with the resulting model.  It was nice to paint something for the first time in a while, and it's good to have another model on the table.  So here is Big Hungry the Rat Ogre, who in his first game managed to drool forward 3" and nothing else!

Kangaxx the Lich

Another commission for a friend, this time a lich, affectionately named Kangaxx in honor of Baldur's Gate II.

Paladin

A buddy of mine wanted a paladin, so I painted him up one from my Reaper Bones stock. I am starting to get the hang of the paintable pvc. In lieu of a primer coat I have started putting on a thin undercoat of a soft black acrylic, and the results have been quite good. It accepts inks and keeps the details well enough to make it look passably like a metal model.

Reaper Bones First Attempt

I am finally finding some time to paint the horde of Bones that I got from the kickstarter.  I am finding they paint funny, and are not quite as detailed as metal or hard plastic, but that said, are still excellent for the price.  For a first attempt I don't think it turned out too bad.

Skaven Warlock Engineer and Reaper Bones Kickstarter

It's been a while since my last post, but I haven't had a whole lot of time to paint.  But in the last week or so I was able to get out the brushes and finish off a Skaven Warlock Engineer that had been sitting around half finished for about 8 months.  I really like how it turned out, and I am stoked to get back in the painting groove in the rare free time that I have had lately.  Up next to paint is an Orc General from GW plastic kit.  He's about half done and should hopefully be finished the next time I paint.  After that I might seriously dig into the Skaven units and see what I can finish.

I also got in on the Reaper Bones Kickstarter.  I am really excited about it, nearly 250 models to use for Mordheim and other gaming needs at less than 50 cents a piece.  That is just a ridiculous deal, and with their durability and paint holding qualities I don't feel terrified about letting my daughter play with them.  I am looking at the optional buys right now to see what I want to choose, as I have around $50 to spend.  I'm thinking I will get the Kaladrax Reborn and C'thulu models to paint and display, and then spend the remaining $30 on either paints, fishmen, hydras, or various monsters and duplicates from the base 250 models.  No matter how it gets spent there are many happy days ahead of painting those models!
